A teacher is the force that drives the educational system.

Teachers' Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general.

In India, the birthday of the second President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (5 September) is celebrated as Teachers' Day since 1962.

Born on September 5, 1888 in Andhra Pradesh, Dr Radhakrishnan was the first Vice-President of India and the second President of India. Dr Radhakrishnan is well-known for his notable work as a teacher, philosopher and scholar. He was a Bharat Ratna Awardee. 

This year's theme for Teachers' Day 2022 is – 'शिक्षकः बढ़ते संकट के बीच भविष्य की नई कल्पना' (Teachers: leading in crisis, reimagining the future).

Savitribai and her husband founded one of the first modern Indian girls' school in Pune, at Bhide wada in 1848.
She worked to abolish the discrimination and unfair treatment of people based on caste and gender. She is regarded as an important figure of the social reform movement in Maharashtra.

As part of Teachers’ Day 2022 , the President of India will confer the National Award to Teachers. 

The purpose of the National Awards to Teachers is to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country and to honor those teachers who through their commitment, have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students.
