- Highest Educated Indian of His Generation: He held doctorates in Economics from Columbia University (USA) and the London School of Economics (UK), studying 64 subjects.
- First Law Minister: He served as independent India's first Minister of Law and Justice from 1947 to 1951.
- Champion of Women's Rights: He strongly advocated for equality, demanding equal rights for women regarding inheritance and marriage in the Hindu Code Bill.
- Influence on the RBI: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was established in 1935 based on ideas and research presented by him.
- Labour Reformer: He reduced working hours for laborers in India from 14 hours to 8 hours a day.
- Conversion to Buddhism: In 1956, seeking a religion based on equality and liberty, he converted to Buddhism along with thousands of followers.
- Ashok Chakra on Flag: He is credited with the inclusion of the Ashok Chakra in the Indian National Flag.
- Bharat Ratna Awardee: He was posthumously honored with India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 1990.
